Empowering Individualized Education for E
very Child
At Great Oaks Learning, we believe every child deserves an education as unique as they are. Whether your learner is elementary-aged or high school, or has special developmental or learning differences, we’re here to meet them where they are and help them grow. We are not just a school — we are a community of lifelong learners, devoted educators, and families working together.
With our licensed special-education teacher and leadership team, each student is given instruction, support and goal-setting based on their needs.
We welcome students of all abilities and backgrounds, offering micro-school options, tutoring, homeschool consultations, and IEP/504 support.
From art and project-based learning to core academics, our programs are designed to build confidence, competence and joy in learning.
Our founder brings over 20 years of experience in special education, holds a master’s degree and an education specialist certificate, and understands both the jargon and the heart behind IEPs and 504s.
Afternoon micro-school sessions for 2024-25, tutoring for K-12 (online or limited in-person), and specialized services like proof-of-progress evaluations and IEP/504 review
To empower each student to reach their full potential — academically, socially and emotionally — through an inclusive, individualized education model that leaves no child behind.
Our Philosophy: We know that no two students are the same. Some learn differently, some have unique challenges, some crave a more flexible, hands-on approach.
At Great Oaks Learning, we build the program around the student — not the other way around.
Our founder (licensed special education teacher, master’s in Special Education, Educational Specialist certificate) has been working with learners from birth through high school, holds autism-studies training and is advancing her credentials in the Barton Reading System. She brings both professional expertise and personal understanding (as a parent of a child with special needs), meaning we don’t just teach learners — we advocate for them.
We are honored by our Smithfield/Isle of Wight community for our dedication to learning and inclusion. Thank you for trusting us with your children’s growth and believing in our mission.
Sarah was my son's teacher. She is upbeat and interactive! She was able to get him engaged and excited to do various activities that he normally wasn't interested in such as painting and art work. She made everything fun and exciting! She is caring, patient, and very understanding of children's varying needs.

We really cannot say enough wonderful things about Sarah and Great Oaks Learning. Not only is our daughter making significant strides with reading, but she actually LOVES tutoring and looks forward to it everyday. This is really a testament to Sarah’s ability to make meaningful connections with her students and keep the material engaging. We feel so fortunate to have found Great Oaks Learning.

Sarah was incredible to us when she helped us out with our kiddo. We were uneasy at first with the program to which he was assigned, but when someone gave us a glowing review of Sarah (who we had yet to meet, but were told that Sarah would be in charge), it gave us the push we needed to try it out. And boy were they right about her! She has been a tremendous help for our son and so positive and down-to-earth approachable. Another great aspect of Sarah is that she really appreciates how hard it can be to be a parent in a situation like ours, because she has been there too. We can't say enough great things about her. We will treasure her always, and we're certain that anyone else would say the same.
